Ukulele Chord Chart

The twelve most useful ukulele chords for the classroom. Standard tuning G C E A.

How to read the chart

Strings run leftโ†’right as G C E A โ€” G is closest to your nose. โ—‹ = open string, ร— = donโ€™t play, and a filled dot shows where to press. Numbers inside dots are suggested fingers (1 = index, 2 = middle, 3 = ring, 4 = pinky). Press just behind the fret, not on top of it.

Starter songs & tips

  • Two-chord songs: C and G7 fit countless nursery rhymes and folk songs.
  • Three-chord songs: add F to play many pop and folk songs in the key of C.
  • Keep the wrist relaxed and let the strumming arm swing from the elbow, not the wrist.
  • Tune before every session โ€” ukuleles slip easily. Use an electronic tuner or tuning app.
